With the help of its progressive temperament, the SEO industry has managed to keep up with the growing internet connectivity across the country;‘rural India’ can now avail digital content on-the-go using their mobile devices.
The Changing Landscape of Digital India
In India, there are about 30 languages and more than 1600 dialects, out of which the Indian constitution recognizes 22 languages. This gives an excellent opportunity to create diverse digital content while considering the Indian geography. However, creating quality content for your audience is more important than focusing on the length of the content.
According to a study conducted by Google, it takes just 8 seconds for a user to get distracted and decide whether they want to continue reading the content or not. The search behaviour of users in rural areas differs entirely from that of the metro population. About 70% of mobile users come from small towns where video content is mostly viewed. It is estimated that the online video audience in India will grow to 500 million by 2020. We need to focus on the remaining 500 million users from rural India.
How to Connect With Every User
It is necessary to understand the consumer’s mindset when it comes to content. Identifying their pain-points and how can you solve those problems becomes imperative. It’s not only about web content; you need to exploit the overall digital asset (blogs, infographics, podcasts, slideshare, videos, etc.) for your content. You must emphasize on creating content that people would love to share with others.
Everybody loves to talk and with Google supporting Hindi for virtual assistance, the rural population is now exposed to main-stream digital content. It has become easy for users to speak and search rather than type-in their queries. A study by Google says that 9 out of 10 people use voice search in rural India and they have witnessed about 270% growth every year in voice search. Hence, we now need to shift our attention to optimize our content for voice search. Focus on ranking in the ‘featured snippet’ section or ‘zero position’ while creating content. Include long-tail keywords in your content while considering human behaviour when talking. Use structured data to help Google understand your website better and rank for featured snippets and get maximum CTR.
Remember to create content that would primarily appeal to users and then the search engine crawlers. Emphasize on creating content while keeping in mind the topic and not just trying to fit-in the keywords.
